Have you heard the term bench warmer? If you haven’t, a bench warmer basically sits down, watches, listens but does nothing. Now, I’m not talking about a bench warmer in the sense of a game of sports. The bench warmer that I’m referring to is a Bible bench warmer. Now you don’t have to go to church, or a building to be a bench warmer, you can be anywhere; it doesn’t matter. What I’m talking about is a person who hears the word of God, but doesn’t truly take it in. This person may not know his or her entire duty to God but they do know some. For example, they know they must share the word with those they cross paths with, but they don’t, even if an opportunity arises where they can share Gods truth with another individual, they keep silent. Which in Matthew 10:32 states,
“32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.”
Food for thought, what happens if you don’t confess him before man?
The Bible says in Matthew 10:33,
“33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”
They know they must do Gods works, but they chose which works to do. You see, this person is comfortable. This person chooses their lifestyle over the word of God, and whether they know it or not, that is what they are doing. This person thinks he or she knows the word of God, they think they're rich and in need of nothing, but in reality they are poor and miserable. The Bible clearly indicates in the book of Revelation what this person is and clearly describes in detail, which can be found in Revelation 3:15-17,
“15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:”
Notice in verse 16 the Bible calls this person “LUKEWARM”, neither hot nor cold. A lukewarm person is not doing the will of God but neither are they cold for God, they are fluctuating in between. So if you are in between does that make you for God? No, here is why in Luke 11:23 states,
“23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.”
So being in between doesn’t mean you’re with him, it means you are against him hence why in Revelation 3:16 God says “I will spue thee out”. Brothers and sisters, let us not find ourselves being a “bench warmer”, let us not find ourselves against God our Father and our lord Jesus Christ. Deeply search yourself and ask yourself “Am I lukewarm? Am I doing Gods will?” Remember, the harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few. (Luke 10:2)
