Chapter 1 of Mark commences the beginning of the preaching of the Elijah message. notice the first verse,
"Mar 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; ".
I am not saying the gospel was not preached before this because it definitely was. This was A more aggressive type of preaching which began with the work of John the Baptist as predicted by the prophets.
"Mar 1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Mar 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."
He is a type of Elijah as Jesus mentioned so it would be good to study Elijahs experience with Gods people and the Priestess of Baal to truly see that history repeating in our time NOW.
Johns message was to restore truths which were forgotten and taught to be a small matter. He was to restore things before the ministry of Christ started.
"Mat 17:10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? Mat 17:11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. Mat 17:12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Mat 17:13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist."
Many times John would rebuke misunderstandings about the law and rebuke those who openly discarded the Law.
"Luk 3:19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, Luk 3:20 Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison."
So what was His message to the world?
Mar 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
What is our message today? Does it include telling the world including our peers to repent? If not there must be a reevaluating of your message. We must not treat these churches as if they are in a safe place in Christ because they claim christian, take a good look at John the Baptist audience.
"Mar 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins."
Those who were to be an example people on earth, were the ones needing the most cleansing. Our preaching to these churches is not that they are saved but that they are lost and must repent. This is what makes this message difficult because its to people who feel they are already saved and need for nothing.
This message was continued with more power after Johns beheading. Jesus Himself empowered this message as He began to preach.
"Mar 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, Mar 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."
In verse 23, Jesus was teaching in the synagogue and there men filled with demons in the place that religious people worshiped and studied the bible. This is also true today. satan has infiltrated and are holding many of our people and leaders in bondage. It is for us to call them back to unity with their Father in heaven. Our message must have power and authority of the scripture to back it up. are we calling people back to unity with Father or unity with us?
There many who preach so they can have people with them. instead we ought to be 100 percent concerned with their salvation and thats it. Are we willing to sacrifice our comfort for them. Are you willing to do this? evaluate yourself and do not preach before you are ready. Jesus is separating His people and gathering them now, this was also Johns message.
"Luk 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Luk 3:17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable."
We must continue the message where John and Jesus left off. Lets surrender ourselves fully that we may find grace in Father sight and found worthy to finish to work and represent Him on this earth. It is time to lighten the earth with His glory but you must be emptied of self and filled with Christ. God bless and keep studying.
