Due to the depth of this topic , it will be somewhat exhaustive. We will be discussing what does the scripture reveal to be the presence of God and His Son. We will not be discussing HOW Gods presence is everywhere but simply what does scripture reveal about Gods presence. There are different ideas as to what the presence of God actually is. Some say it’s a force that projects from the Father, others say its God delegating angels to do all His work and that the delegating of angels is the dispersing of the His spirit or presence and there is more ideas but we will be focused as to what the scriptures says.
First we will establish what is the spirit of God. I will not go into detail because there is a study on this in this link ( Truth About The Sprit ). Lets start with Psalms 51 verse 11,
Psa 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Here we see that the term presence and Spirit is used interchangeably. But lets look at another verse to show this idea. Lets look at Psalms chapter 139 verses 7 to 11 which states,
Psa 139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
Psa 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
Psa 139:9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Psa 139:10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
Psa 139:11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
We notice here that the words presence and spirit is referring to the same thing. Its used interchangeably by the use of the word “or” in between statements. Not only does it refer to His presence but the context in the rest of the verses refer to His ability to be everywhere. Notice David mentions that wherever He goes our Father is there. Clear revelation of the spirit of God. Let us not mistake the meaning of this. He is not saying He is IN everything but that He is in every Location present which is called Omni Presence.
Scripture reveals this idea in many places. Scriptures also reveals to us a physical location of where He is physically. The reason this separate manifestation of His presence is because no one can see His physical structure and live. This is shown to us in Exodus chapter 19 verse 21 which says,
Exo 19:21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
Jesus Himself mentions no one has seen his Father at anytime in John 5 verse 37 and John chapter 1verse 18
Joh 5:37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
There are many attributes of God and one of them is that He cannot be seen due to our sinful state. Until the flesh is changed then we will be able to see Him face to face because He will dwell with us personally on the new earth (Revelation 21:2-3). Now the Father Himself does have a visible form and is seen by His angels.
Mat 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
Luk_1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
It is interesting that clearly the Father is a visible being and is seen by His son and His angels. The reason why its interesting is because He is described as being INVISIBLE.
1Ti 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Paul also explains why He is invisible which means He cannot be see by us physically but we have His unseen or invisible presence with us.
1Ti 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
Now we see that the Spirit is the unseen or invisible presence of God, He is able to be in Heaven and, by His Spirit, be with us at the same time. This is very important to understand because we receive multiple promises from Christ Himself that He will be with us.
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Joh 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Now The Son of God was visible and always was. He promised to be with us after His death not in a visible way but in us. He also tried to reveal this to us while He was on earth.
Joh 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
Joh 14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
This invisible presence is to let us know He is in the Father. Simply because Omni Presence is the Fathers ability and The Son has to go to Him for this ability. The son shows His need to go to the Father for this purpose many times.
Joh 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
Joh 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
Joh 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
Joh 16:16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
Joh 16:17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
Joh 16:18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
Joh 16:19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
Joh 16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
Joh 16:21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
Joh 16:22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
Verse 22 is clearly referring too the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost. This is extremely clear as to what will occur. The Son who was dead and was raised by His Father will go unto to His Father so He can obtain the ability to be omnipresent. This is necessary in order for the Son of God who will be ministering in the sanctuary on the right side of the Father, to send His Invisible presence to be with us always. This truth was understood and also preached by Paul and the apostles.
Act 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Act 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
There are many more verses that show The Son of God dwells in me Himself. His physical form is not in me but His invisible presence is in all those who believe in His name transforming us into His own image. This does not negate the fact that the Father uses angels to assist us in the salvation process. The angels do many things such as teach us, protect us, and more. As to what occurs intimately in us even the angels have not understanding of that experience. Peter reveals this to us, in 1st Peter chapter 1.
1Pe 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
1Pe 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: (Gospel)
1Pe 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
1Pe 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
There is an experience that angels though they help us in understanding of the Gospel, they themselves don’t understand fully what occurs in us. The Spirit which allows The Father and His Son to dwell in us is a power and ability only the Father and creator of the universe possesses. It also can be used on whomever they desire. This occurred in scriptures to Phillip the evangelist.
Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Act 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Act 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
There is a quote from a old periodical in the late 1800s which explains it the way the scriptures does.
"Cumbered(hindered) with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself divested(stripped) of the personality(attributes) of humanity and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent. {14th volume Manuscripts Release, page 23.3}"
If the Spirit is angels or a force why would the Son have to go to His Father and have humanity stripped from Him? We see many understands this truth.
If the idea that angels are the Omni presence of God and His son that will make satan Omni present as well. Simply because satan has many angels in which He delegates to do His bidding. Also it is possession which satan and His angels try to obtain full control without the host having free will. The spirit of God transforms and enables with power to walk with God. The scriptures eliminates the idea of a force or a delegating of angels to be His presence. Many scriptures showing that even demons are in a person it is their invisible presence not a force or mind projection into the person. An example we can use is the demoniac.
Luk 8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
Luk 8:31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
Luk 8:32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
Luk 8:33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
We see here in clear scripture that evil angels can possess willing vessels by ENTERING into them. There is also another example.
Act 19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Act 19:14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
Act 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
Act 19:16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Another example is at the Lords Supper, referring to Judas
Luk_22:3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
This possession is the actual presence of the demon in the person according to scripture. Angels were created as spirits, and have no specific physical form like God and His son. Man is made in the image of God and angels were not, but were made ministering spirits which can take other forms as well as the form of a man(Hebrews 1:13-14).
We don’t have any indication that God sends Holy angels or His Projected mind Into the believer. God Himself desires this intimate experience with the believer in which we are being transformed By God and led by His Son as they are present with us. Also the blessing of having the heavenly angels here to help us as well. Satan seeks to possess and control and have His way with mankind. We see in many cases He succeeds but the believer has a choice and freedom from God as He dwells in the believer.
Eze 3:24 Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house.
We see here first hand though God enters us, He asks for our cooperation and does not force obedience as does the evil angels.
1Sa 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
1Sa 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
There are many things to clear up with certain scriptures, especially one about Paul’s Spirit being with the brethren when his physical presence was not among them. This has a lot to do with the use of the word Spirit in the scriptures.
1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1Co 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
1Co 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
1Co 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Here in this verse we see a statement from Paul saying His Spirit is with the people though He is physically not present with them. This means that He is in one accord with the judgement that is about to be made about a person sinning and not being repentant in the congregation. This is a correct use of the word because the word Spirit is also used for MIND or Judgement. This will be covered in part 2 of this study as we dissect the usage of the word spirit in the scripture. Paul mentions this idea many times. We also see this idea in 1st Corinthians chapter 1 verse 10 which states,
1Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
According to the meaning of the word spirit, to have the same spirit is to have the same mind. We will touch more on this in the Ruach study. I hope this has been clear and simple. I hope the scriptures used have not been confusing in any way. If there is any questions or thoughts feel free to contact me.

First we will establish what is the spirit of God. I will not go into detail because there is a study on this in this link ( Truth About The Sprit ). Lets start with Psalms 51 verse 11,

Here we see that the term presence and Spirit is used interchangeably. But lets look at another verse to show this idea. Lets look at Psalms chapter 139 verses 7 to 11 which states,

It is interesting that clearly the Father is a visible being and is seen by His son and His angels. The reason why its interesting is because He is described as being INVISIBLE.
